PSHE & RSE at Our School

At our school, we believe that Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education, including Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), plays a vital role in helping children grow into confident, respectful, responsible and safe individuals. We follow the Kapow Primary scheme to deliver a well-structured, inclusive and engaging PSHE and RSE curriculum.

What is Kapow Primary?

Kapow Primary is a comprehensive, DfE approved scheme that supports schools in delivering high-quality PSHE and RSE in line with statutory guidance. It provides age-appropriate lessons that are carefully sequenced to build knowledge, skills and understanding as children progress through the school.

Our PSHE Curriculum

Through Kapow Primary, pupils explore six key areas of learning:

  • Families and Relationships – understanding different family structures, friendships and respectful relationships
  • Health and Wellbeing – learning how to look after physical and mental health, including emotions and self-care
  • Safety and the Changing Body – developing knowledge about personal safety, online safety and growing up
  • Citizenship – understanding rights, responsibilities, democracy and how to contribute positively to society
  • Economic Wellbeing – learning about money, jobs and the world of work
  • Identity (including RSE) – celebrating diversity, individuality and respect for others

Lessons encourage discussion, reflection and active participation, helping children develop confidence and strong communication skills.

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

Our RSE curriculum is taught sensitively and appropriately, ensuring content is age-appropriate and delivered in a safe and supportive environment. Children learn about:

  • Building healthy, respectful relationships
  • Understanding their emotions and boundaries
  • How bodies change as they grow
  • The importance of kindness, consent and respect

Parents and carers are informed about the content taught at each stage, and we work closely with families to ensure openness and trust.

Inclusion and Wellbeing

Kapow Primary promotes inclusion, equality and respect. Lessons celebrate diversity and help children develop empathy and understanding of others, supporting their emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Assessment and Progress

Assessment in PSHE is ongoing and reflective. Teachers monitor children’s understanding and personal development through discussion, observation and pupil voice, ensuring learning is meaningful and relevant.

Preparing Children for Life

Our PSHE and RSE curriculum aims to equip children with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to navigate life safely and respectfully.
