Maths at our school
At Wolverton Primary School we believe that all children should have a strong understanding of mathematics to prepare them for an ever changing world. Through our daily maths lessons, we develop their confidence, skills and resilient approach to all aspects of mathematics. At our school, mathematics is taught using the White Rose Maths scheme, which is fully aligned with the National Curriculum for England.
What is White Rose Maths?
White Rose Maths is based on a mastery approach, which provides a structured, coherent approach that ensures all pupils develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and become confident, fluent mathematicians. Learning is carefully sequenced so that new knowledge builds on what has already been taught.
Our approach
Teachers use White Rose and NCETM planning resources to offer engaging lessons that challenge and develop children’s understanding of mathematics. We teach children mathematical concepts through practical, pictorial and written methods in order to develop a deep understanding and confidence that enables them to make links in their learning. This approach helps children to visualise mathematical concepts and supports all learners.
Problem solving and mathematical reasoning are at the heart of our maths teaching. Pupils are encouraged to:

We supplement our schemes with a few other resources including I See Reasoning and Problem Solving, Numberblocks, and NRich problems, which help our children to reason and problem solve more confidently.

The White Rose Maths approach supports high expectations for all learners. Teaching is adapted to meet the needs of all pupils through:
