Computing

Computing at Our School

At our school, we recognise the importance of computing in preparing children for an increasingly digital world. Our computing curriculum is delivered using the Purple Mash scheme, which provides a creative, engaging and structured approach to teaching computing across the primary age range.

What is Purple Mash?

Purple Mash is a comprehensive, DfE aligned computing scheme designed specifically for primary schools. It supports pupils in developing essential digital skills, computational thinking and online safety awareness through interactive and age-appropriate learning activities.

Our Computing Curriculum

Using Purple Mash, our computing curriculum is built around three key strands of the National Curriculum:

  • Computer Science - learning how computers work, understanding algorithms, and developing coding and programming skills

  • Information Technology - creating, organising, storing and presenting digital content in a range of formats

  • Digital Literacy - using technology safely, responsibly and respectfully, including strong online safety education

Lessons are carefully sequenced to ensure progression in skills and knowledge from Early Years through to Year 6.

Creativity and Problem Solving

Purple Mash allows children to explore computing in a creative and practical way. Pupils design, code, create digital content and solve problems, building confidence and resilience as they learn to debug and improve their work.

Online Safety

Online safety is a key part of our computing curriculum and is taught regularly using Purple Mash resources. Children learn how to stay safe online, protect their personal information, behave respectfully, and understand how to seek help if they are worried about something they encounter online.

Inclusion and Accessibility

Purple Mash supports inclusive learning by offering a wide range of activities that can be adapted to suit different abilities and learning styles. This ensures that all children are supported and challenged appropriately.

Preparing Children for the Future

Our aim is to ensure that all pupils leave primary school as safe, respectful and capable users of technology, equipped with the skills they need for the next stage of their education and beyond.
